Episode Zero

In Episode 0 of "Cibo e Politiche," Filippo Pini from the University of Bologna's Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences interviewed two guests: Daniele del Rio from the University of Parma's Department of Food and Drug Sciences, and Matteo Vittuari, also from the University of Bologna's Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences.

The goal of Episode 0 is to introduce listeners to the OnFoods partnership through the words of its scientific coordinator, Daniele del Rio, and Spoke 7, the working group focused on Policies, Behaviors, and Education, led by Matteo Vittuari.

In the episode, Filippo talks with the guests to explore the objectives and ambitions of the project, learn about the organizations involved, and discuss the challenges faced in operating such a complex yet innovative initiative like the OnFoods project.

The guests also share their views on the crucial role of young researchers, revealing their hopes for what these researchers might achieve during the project's duration and their future in food and nutrition research in Italy.

The first episode

The first episode, already available, features Valeria Musso from the University of Bologna interviewing Giampiero Mazzocchi from CREA Politics and Bioeconomics.

Together, they discuss the 'Integrated National Food Policy' project, which aims to create a set of policy recommendations to promote healthy and sustainable diets in Italy, a topic that has not yet been systematically addressed in the country.

The project, involving a team from CREA's Policy and Bioeconomy Research Centre, aims to provide a list of policy recommendations for a healthy and sustainable diet in Italy, where no regulatory framework has systematically addressed this issue in a multidisciplinary way.

The episode reviews the steps that led to identifying how healthy and sustainable diets are conceived, theorised and articulated at various levels, ranging from international to Italian perspectives.

To conclude, Giampiero talks about the project's next steps, which will include the creation of a National Food Council, a working group of relevant stakeholders that will help CREA researchers formulate shared policy recommendations.

"Cibo e Politiche" is a project entirely managed by the Spoke 7 group of Early Career Scientists, as part of the OnFoods Mentorship Programme.
